The Ministry grants Benidorm the distinction 'City of Science and Innovation'

El Ministerio concede a Benidorm la distinción ‘Ciudad de la Ciencia y la Innovación’

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and University has awarded Benidorm the distinction 'City of Science and Innovation' in the category of municipalities from 20,001 to 100,000 inhabitants, as stated in the resolution of the State Secretariat of Universities, Research, Development and Innovation of the past April 12 and which is published on the website of the Ministry.

At the proposal of the local government, the plenary of the corporation approved last January unanimously request the Ministry this distinction, which recognizes the leading cities that have supported infrastructure investments that favor economic sustainability and improve the pattern of Growth based on knowledge and innovation.

At the time of granting this recognition to Benidorm, the Secretary of State has valued the projects carried out or promoted by the City Council since 2015 focused on the promotion of economic activity, entrepreneurship and innovation; to improve access and use of networks and infrastructures of information technologies and fixed and mobile telecommunications; to improve the green economy, energy efficiency and renewable energies; promote healthcare innovation; to modernize the Administration; as well as to develop centers of culture and scientific-technological divulgation.

In addition, the jury chaired by the Director General of Research, Development and Innovation, Teresa Riesgo, has valued the fact that Benidorm has become the first certified Smart Tourist Destination in the world.

Among the wide list of projects submitted by Benidorm City Council and valued by the Ministry are: DUSI Strategy, Technical Office of innovation and intelligence linked to tourism, Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan (PMUS) and all the sectorial plans derived of it, Master Plan of Integral Water Cycle and Dinapsis center, the implementation of the Electronic Administration and the Compass Project for the detection of elderly people at risk of exclusion.

In addition to requesting the distinction 'City of Science and Innovation', Benidorm approved to request the incorporation of the City Council to the Association of INNPULSO Network (ARINN), of which the municipalities distinguished with the award 'City of Science and of Innovation '. This Network INNPULSO and the Association that accompanies it constitute a forum for meeting and defining innovative local policies where the member cities share experiences and projects.

Along with Benidorm have also received this distinction, in another category, cities such as Barcelona and Castellón.
