Mediterráneo Avenue, the great artery of Benidorm, become into a healthy space for pedestrians

Av del Mediterráneo, la gran arteria de Benidorm, reconvertida en espacio saludabe para el peatón

The European Mobility Week today has celebrated the day dedicated to parks and promenades, in one of the most important arteries of the city: Mediterráneo Avenue, once its first section between La Hispanidad and Europa Avenue has been rehabilitated and open to the public, after completion of the works.

The Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, together with the person in charge of the Urban Planning area, Lourdes Caselles and municipal technicians, have travelled the route and shared with neighbors some of the milestones that this important municipal action represents in relation to pedestrian mobility .

In this way, González de Zárate has valued the new itinerary that adds "more than 30,000 meters of enjoyment for pedestrians", with large shaded spaces "that used to be occupied by cars and now people have." The councilor has clarified that the structure of the road consolidates a reduction in temperatures "between 3 and 4 degrees" compared to the neighboring roads.

Another aspect that attracts the attention of Mediterráneo Avenue and its reconversion into a healthy space in the city, is the horizontal signage on the same asphalt. Regardless of the installation of vertical signs that identify it as a residential area, the blue background pictograms "with the house, the car, or the child playing with a ball" that have been reinforced with other road markings of human figures "it is clear that the priority is always the pedestrian ”. For this reason, the day dedicated to the walks of the European Mobility Week today focused on this avenue.
