The mayor receives the board of Benidorm-Chimbote Solidarity Association (ASBECH)
A delegation from Benidorm-Chimbote Solidarity Association (ASBECH) today has made a visit to the first local authority to present the association and transfer the premises of solidarity collaboration that it proposes with the Peruvian town of Chimbote, known in the sixties of the 20th century as the capital of fishing and steel and to which simic processes, the ENSO effects (the drought of the El Niño phenomenon), the overexploitation of fisheries and environmental degradation have plunged into a crisis situation from which it is emerging in these first years of the XXI century.
The ASBECH delegation was made up of the president, Luís Bañó, who was accompanied by management positions such as Viicenta Asensio, Angélica Such, Mamen Díaz and Ana Lloret, together with the priest of Benidorm Father Jaime Banaloy Marco. They were received by the Mayor Toni Pérez and the Councilor for Cooperation, Angela Llorca Seguí.
Benaloy exposed the most significant aspects of Chimbote, its shortcomings and difficulties, highlighting its geographical coincidences with Benidorm, with an island even in its bay, and the need to work on local development and citizen participation, promoting aid, solidarity and awareness initiatives, in which Benidorm will be essential.
When the association finishes its procedures and registrations, stressed the mayor, it will be able to apply for cooperation grants from the City Council. Toni Pérez pointed out the commitments of solidarity and local development that can be undertaken and encouraged the delegation to advance in its tasks.
