Equality and Culture program for this Saturday ‘LGTBI + Cinema’ in Julio Iglesias auditorium
What it was supposed to be the weekend of Benidorm Pride 2020, the Councils for Equality and Culture have programmed a cycle of ‘LGTBI + Cinema’, in which the film ‘Girl’ by Belgian Lukas Dhont will be screened. Those responsible for both areas, Ángela Zaragozí and Jaime Jesús Pérez, have detailed that the screening will take place this Saturday, September 5, at the Julio Iglesias auditorium in l’Aigüera Park at 9:30 pm.
Zaragozí has indicated that “for years, the first weekend of September Benidorm has become the epicenter of the LGTBI + movement with its Pride; an event that, in addition to recreational activities, has cultural, advocacy and dissemination initiatives, with which the City Council collaborates, helping to give support and visibility to the group in the same way that we do every June 28 on the occasion of Pride Day. That is why, although the Benidorm Pride 2020 has been suspended due to the health situation caused by Covid-19, from the Councils of Equality and Culture we want the LGBTI + movement to maintain its space in the city's calendar with this film projection ”.
The head of Culture has reported that access to the screening "is free and limited to capacity." A venue, he recalled, that "is fully adapted to health guidelines and regulations in terms of safety and hygiene, in which social distance is guaranteed and in which throughout the summer we have carried out different events and cultural initiatives."
The film "Girl" tells the story of a 16-year-old transsexual girl and the way she must take to fulfill her dream of being a dancer, which will not be without obstacles. The 2018 film won four awards at the Cannes Film Festival: the Camera d'Or, a Certain Regard, the International Critics Award and the Queer Palm. In addition, it was nominated for the Goya Awards in the category of best European film.
