‘Clean up the world’ campaign comes this year to the natural environment of Guillermo Amor sports city

18 September 2019
La campaña ‘Clean up the world’ llega este año al entorno natural de la ciudad deportiva Guillermo Amor

For the fifth consecutive year, Benidorm City Council and the Neighborhood Council have joined the campaign 'Clean up the world', 'To clean the world', a day of community cleaning of the natural environment that this time will develop this Friday, September 20, in “the pine forest located next to the athletics track of the Guillermo Amor Sports City”, as reported by the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, during the presentation of the initiative. A presentation in which the Councilors for Environment and Street Cleaning, Mónica Gómez and José Ramón González de Zárate, and the first vice president of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido, also participated.

Pellicer recalled that since 2015 Benidorm participates in this initiative “promoted by the United Nations Organization, in which more than 35 million people from 130 countries participate annually and that it proposes to carry out community actions for the environment”. In these years we have proceeded “to clean green spaces located very close to the urban fabric, such as the wooded area of Barranco de l'Aigüera, the pine forest located next to what is now Séquia Mare Park, our island , access to Serra Gelada Natural Park or El Moralet area ”.

In this regard, the head of the Environment has added that “in many cases this community cleaning action has been accompanied by the recovery of these spaces to make them available to the public”, as “this has happened with the environment of what today it is the Séquia Mare Park and with the closest land to TRAM station, enabled as a deterrent parking lot ”.

On this occasion, "the proposed area is one of the entrances to El Moralet, a green area increasingly travelled by residents of Benidorm and that this government wants to convert throughout this term in a large peri-urban park", has Gómez indicated. In addition, in this same area is the old “train” route that the City Council of Benidorm has asked the Ministry to convert into Vía Verde.

Although the action of 'Cleaning the world' is going to take place on Friday between 09.30 and 12.30, the Councilor for Street Cleaning has indicated that “we have been working at El Moralet for two weeks”, mainly in “the most remote area” of the urban plot, removing fixtures and debris that apparently have been recently dumped.

De Zárate explained that the Department of Road Cleaning, along with the FCC and Actúa dealerships, will provide logistical support to this day of 'Clean up the world' by providing the necessary technical and human resources for the collection and transfer of waste for subsequent recycling.

Pellicer, on the other hand, stressed that year after year this campaign "has been gaining accessions and more and more local groups and entities that join it." Thus, this year, in addition to Benidorm City Council and the Neighborhood Council, the following entities also participate: AERBECO, ASMIBE, Aspanion, Red Cross, Doble Amor Association, Ulpia Traiana, Local Police and the Socio-Cultural Association of the Local Police. "Some of these entities - she added - have already participated in previous editions of this campaign, while others do so for the first time."

The Neighborhood Council, its first vice president has encouraged “all citizens to actively participate in this initiative” and “clean our green areas” in an action that also seeks to “raise awareness about the importance of keeping our environment clean”.
