The City Council prepares Marconi Passage to make it more accessible and adapt it to the environment

L'Ajuntament condiciona el Passatge Marconi per a fer-ho més accessible i adequar-lo a l'entorn...

Benidorm City Council has included in the actions of the contract for ‘Maintenance and improvement of the public road around municipal facilities and maintenance of accessibility’ the refurbishment and adaptation of the Marconi Passage. An action that aims to "improve pedestrian accessibility and mobility" and "give continuity to the urbanization" of this road, accommodating it to the environment, as explained today by the mayor, Toni Pérez. In addition, this action includes "the improvement of the rainwater network of the passage" and the connection of the downspouts of the buildings to it, "providing solutions to problems that could be substantial with the arrival of rains."

The mayor recalled that some time ago “we already made the junction of the passage with Jaime I avenue at the height of the roundabout located in front of the 'Mare de Déu del Sofratge' cemetery, and now we continue that development to the first line of the beach ”with this project, which“ we hope to have executed before the end of the year ”.

Toni Pérez has indicated that the City Council is taking advantage of “this moment of low commercial activity as well as restaurants, bars and hotels” due to the pandemic, to carry out actions aimed at “that the city adapts, improves and grows following the accessibility criteria ”.

Furthermore, in this case, the improvement in accessibility entails an aesthetic improvement so that "this passage, which is very busy, offers a new image".

Toni Pérez stressed that "we continue to advance in our urban surgery policy, intervening in areas that can be improved" through a contract with which 24 actions have already been carried out "in practically all the neighborhoods of Benidorm". Specifically, among other actions, under this 700,000 euro contract, two roundabouts have been built on Severo Ochoa avenue, the surroundings of Morales Tower have been adapted, action has been taken in Ruzafa and Ametlla del Mar streets, as well as at the intersection of Herrerías and El Puente, Plaza de las Tiendas, Parque de Foietes, final stretch of Paseo de Levante, access ramp to the beach at El Torrejó, and stairs to Paseo de Tamarindos. In addition, solar street lamps have been installed and the Wind Rose located at the intersection of Gambo and Martínez Alejos streets is currently being restored.
