La bandera azul ondeará un año más en las playas de Levante, Poniente y Mal Pas

The blue flag will fly one more year on the beaches of Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas in Benidorm. The city of Benidorm has renewed this quality mark for its three beaches, which is awarded annually by the Environmental Education Foundation to the beaches and ports that meet the most rigorous conditions of water quality, information, environmental education, security, services and facilities.

The councilor of the department, Mónica Gómez, has indicated the "opportunity of this news" that every May arrives on time for its appointment "when we are all planning to reopen to tourist activity, overcoming the impact of the covid day by day".

Gómez stressed that "our greatest treasure is these beaches of Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas" and this emblem recognizes "the constant effort we put into them". The councilor indicated that the same treatment is given to the coves of Tío Ximo and Almadraba.

The councillor pointed out that “although it seems that it is easy to achieve the renewal of the blue flag year after year for the beaches of Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas”, the truth is that this distinctive “is the result of the continuous effort of the concession companies and the City Council technicians to try to follow the path taken many years ago and never lower the quality and services of our beaches ”.

The Beaches Councilor added that "if we take into account that Benidorm is a city that lives and grows facing the sea, obviously our beaches must always present the quality that makes them different." Mónica Gómez pointed out that "the first aid services, accessible beaches, cleaning, footbaths and equipment, as well as the quality of the waters and sands, have been decisive in renewing the distinctions." The councilor highlighted the collaboration of the Department of Health in the analytics to ensure the sanitary quality of some beaches that have Contingency, Safety and Emergency Plans and also Benidorm Beach safety platform that ensures free and safe beaches for each and every day.

Spain has obtained 713 blue flags of  which 615 have been for beaches; 25 more than in 2020. Spain leads this ranking ahead of countries such as France, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Portugal. The Valencian Community is the Autonomy with the highest number of blue flags, with a total of 137 badges, ahead of Andalusia and Galicia. The province of Alicante concentrates more than half of the flags of the region, 74.
