Municipal and concessionaire services work on the latest repairs and sand screening

Benidorm's beaches are already operational after the passage of the storm 'Gloria’

25 January 2020
Las playas de Benidorm ya están operativas tras el paso del temporal ‘Gloria’

Less than a week after the storm 'Gloria', the beaches of Benidorm “are already operational and recovered in the absence of the latest minor repairs in which the technical services and concessionary companies already work, especially the one in charge of maintaining the beaches” , as explained by the councilor of the area, Monica Gomez.

Specifically, these days, "we are proceeding to remove some waste from the beach and screen the sand with machinery, although most of the recovery is the result of a natural process."

The councillor has indicated that “fortunately, the damages in Benidorm have been minor, since the south orientation of our beaches and the natural protection offered by Serra Gelada makes them less vulnerable to maritime storms. Even so, the force of the storm caused the water to reach the walls of our promenades, which it failed to overcome, and has affected furniture that cannot be removed, such as wooden walkways or lavapies. ”

In this regard, Gómez has pointed out that “given the weather forecast, much of the furniture was removed from the beaches, something that, on the other hand, will be used to perform the annual tasks of screening and leveling the sand so that, as usual, it is in an optimal hygienic-sanitary state for the new bathing season ”.

The mayor said that the force of the waves and the rise in water during the storm damaged the lifeguard station on the beach of Mal Pas "that we will retire next week with a crane." As for the environment of the lavapiés, Gómez has clarified that "the sand that has been lost at these points will naturally return to the point where it was before the storm."

Finally, Gómez has shown her solidarity with the municipalities most affected by the storm and has transferred her condolences to families of the fatalities because of the storm ‘Gloria’, some of which “touch us very closely”.
