‘Women and Work’ meeting is held on September 27 and 28, and is organized by Memba, with the support of the areas of Equality, Employment and Local Promotion

Benidorm will address in a conference the economic and labor reality of women

18 September 2019
Benidorm abordará en unas jornadas la realidad económica y laboral de las mujeres trabajadoras y emprendedoras

The city of Benidorm hosts on September 27 and 28 a few days of reflection and debate in which the economic, labor and social reality of working women and entrepreneurs will be addressed. A conference entitled ‘Women and Work’ organized by Memba - Association for the Development of Women Entrepreneurs of the Marina Baixa - with the support of Benidorm City Council. This has been announced today by the mayor, Toni Pérez, in a press conference with the councilors of Equality and Employment and Local Promotion, Ángela Zaragozí and Mónica Gómez; the president of Memba, Mª José Tent; and Genoveva Tent, member of the entity's board of directors.

Toni Pérez explained that "the objective of these conferences is to address the economy with a gender perspective, providing data on the productive economy and the care economy", as women work inside and outside home. It is intended, therefore, “to draw an x-ray of the economic, labor and social reality of these women workers and entrepreneurs to be able to plan, not only at the local level, better policies that lead us to achieve the equal opportunities. "

These days, he said, are in tune with "effective policies" that are developed from the City Council and that "in terms of equality are always transversal."

The mayor has indicated that the days that Memba have organized makes them "very attractive" even "nationally", and has been convinced that "the analysis, data, studies and reflections" that will transfer the speakers "will allow us to move towards a better and more egalitarian society."

In this regard, the president of Memba has pointed out that the speakers are specialized and recognized women; and that there will be three roundtables: ‘Women and Economy’, ‘Women in Network’ and ‘Women and entrepreneurship’. Tent added that these days will be "a decalogue" that "hopefully reach" all public administrations and "that serves to encourage and promote policies to achieve an egalitarian society without roofs."

The conference will start on Friday 27 at 4:00 p.m. and will last until 8:15 p.m. On Saturday, the programming starts at 10 am, and the closing is scheduled around 2:30 pm. Apart from conferences and discussion tables, ‘Women and Work’ will be enlivened by the Clown Destination Theater company.

Mª José Tent has pointed out that this free meeting will be held in the Assembly Hall of the City Council and is aimed at all people who "want to participate in a debate and reflection on the economy and work of women in society." Registration for the conference can be done on Memba website (www.membamarinabaixa.org), in Events ’section. The president of the entity has indicated that the form is accompanied by a questionnaire that "will help us prepare statistics that will be part of the dynamics of the debate."
