The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Virgin of Sufrage's trip to Valencia and will last for a week

Benidorm is ready to receive the patroness saint of Valencia on Sunday

Benidorm se prepara para recibir el domingo a la patrona de Valencia

The Mare de Déu dels Desamparats will arrive by sea accompanied by a patrol boat from the Naval Base of Cartagena

The city of Benidorm is already preparing to receive this Sunday, September 16, the patroness saint of Valencia, the Mare de Déu dels Desamparats. This visit will last for a week and coincides with the celebration of the 'Holy Year Vicentino' - of which the parish of San Jaime and Santa Ana is a jubilee temple - and with the 70th anniversary of the journey of the Virgin of Sufragio to the capital of Túria .

The Municipal Technical Services have started today at Plaza Sus Majestades Reyes de España the assembly of the infrastructure for the celebration of the Eucharist in honor of the patroness saint of Valencia and for which the attendance of more than 1,000 people is expected. In this regard, the councilman of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, has advanced that "we have confirmed that Benidorm buses from Valencia and some places of La Marina Baixa will travel to Benidorm".

Carrobles recalled that the visit and all the events that accompany it are organized by the parish community of San Jaime and Santa Ana with the collaboration of the City Council, the Waitresses of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge, the ARC La Barqueta and the Commission of Major Festivities.

The mayor detailed that the Mare de Déu dels Desamparats will arrive in the city by boat, specifically on board the 'Bay of Benidorm' and accompanied by the patrol boat 'Toralla', the Naval Base of Cartagena. After her arrival in port, where she will be received by the image of the Virgin of Sofratge, the Bishop of the Diocese of Orihuela-Alicante will officiate the Eucharist at Plaza SSMM Reyes de España, and later there will be a pilgrimage to the parish of San Jaime and Santa Ana, in which the crew of the 'Toralla' will also participate.

Just in the parish of San Jaime and Santa Ana will remain the image of the Mare de Déu dels Desamparats for a week, the longest period that the employer has been absent from the city of Valencia. Throughout the week there will be different acts such as concerts or conferences, and homilies will be held each day officiated by the owner of one of the parishes of Benidorm.

As a closure to this visit, on September 23 a farewell mass is planned, after which the image of the patroness saint of Valencia will be transferred to the port from where she will embark for the capital of Túria.

Twenty years since her first visit to Benidorm

The councilman of Fiestas recalled that the patroness saint of Valencia was in Benidorm twenty years ago, although that was a brief visit. That first transfer to the city took place coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the trip made by the Virgin of Sofratge in 1948 to Valencia to pay tribute to the Mare de Déu dels Desamparats. A trip that the patroness of Benidorm made by sea.
