Benidorm acoge la última y decisiva etapa de la II Setmana Ciclista Valenciana

Benidorm will host on February 25 the final and decisive stage of the II Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, in which 174 riders of 29 women's teams from about a dozen European countries participate. The mayor, Toni Pérez; the provincial deputy of Sports, Juanjo Castelló; and Rubén Donet, the director of the race have moved this morning the details of the stage that will travel part of the region and will have exit and finish in the city. A press conference also attended by the councilor for Sports, Arturo Cabrillo, and the councillor of Equality, Paquita Ripoll. Both, along with the mayor, participated yesterday in the official presentation of the competition held in Valencia.

The mayor insisted on "the relevance of this international event of the highest level, which will bring the best cyclists in the world to a city passionate about this sport." Pérez pointed out that this still  young test "has to mark the calendar of the Valencian Community itself, also putting us as a benchmark in cycling as a women's sport". He also stressed that this test will serve to bring cycling and its values ​​of "effort and hard work" to girls and young women who practice this sport, being "the example and mirror in which they see."

The director of the race explained that this fourth and final stage of the II Setmana Ciclista Valenciana will leave Avenida Jaime I at 11.00. From there, the runners will go three times around a circuit that includes a second-class port in Finestrat -and that could be a determining factor for the Mountain General- and which also passes through the municipalities of Orxeta and Villajoyosa. In total, 118 kilometers that would end at the same point where the race starts, where "a giant screen will be installed so that fans can follow via streaming the last hour and a half of the race."

Donet has highlighted that among the participating cyclists there are 30 Spaniards, of which six are Valencian, and he added that this last stage "is the one with the most difference" of the whole event; and that the whole tour in Benidorm will be "'special sprint'.

On the circuit, the mayor has assured that "will show the best we have" in the city and part of the Marina Baixa, and will contribute to "make county, province and Community."

On the other hand, the deputy of Sports has remarked that "to speak of cycling in the province of Alicante is to speak of tradition and liking", and has confirmed the bet of the provincial organism by this type of events - that improve "the deseasonalization" of the destinations that "boost tourism and the economy" - and for women's sport. Castelló has encouraged cycling enthusiasts to "enjoy the 25th of February", to clothe cyclists as they pass through Benidorm, and to enjoy the surroundings and cuisine of the city and the region.

Pérez transferred to the organization that "they can always count on Benidorm".
