The investment has touched the half million euros and has included the improvement of accessibility and water infrastructure

Benidorm culminates the works of pedestrianization and renovation of Doctor Pérez Llorca street

Benidorm culmina las obras de peatonalización y renovación de la calle del Doctor Pérez Llorca

Benidorm City Council has completed the pedestrianization and renovation works of Doctor Pérez Llorca Street, which have involved a municipal investment of around half a million euros. For a few days, and coinciding with the start of Holy Week, the street is completely open to pedestrian traffic and the enjoyment of residents and visitors.
This morning, the mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Works, José Ramón González de Zárate; the spokesperson for Ciudadanos por Benidorm (CBM) and the councillor for Street Cleaning, Arturo Cabrillo; the deputy spokesman of the municipal group Ciudadanos (Cs), Juan Balastegui; and members of the local government have walked the street of Doctor Pérez Llorca to check the result of the integral remodeling.
The mayor indicated that this action has given "a new aspect, absolutely different" to a street that was conceived as a "great commercial axis" in the second line of Levante beach and that due to "lack of care" and "the deterioration "did not fully develop its full potential. In this sense, Pérez advanced that in recent months and weeks have received "requests for permits and licenses to open" for the launch of new businesses in this street, which will result in "employment growth."
In addition to improving the scene, the mayor pointed out that this remodeling "is a clear commitment to accessibility and pedestrianization", and added that this work is "the threshold, and separate, of this great project that awaits us in 2018: the integral remodeling of Mediterráneo avenue ".
In terms of urban scene, the work has involved the renovation of all the pavement, which has remained at a single height, as well as the installation of urban furniture, the renovation of all the lighting and the installation of trees and small garden areas integrated in the pavement.
The mayor has impacted on "the important work" that has been developed "in the subsoil", renewing water and sewage infrastructure after "six decades" in operation. Exactly the antiquity of these infrastructures has provoked "that we have found surprises" and that "the deadlines of execution of the work have been delayed over the predicted one"; a delay for which he has asked for "apologies".
He also recalled that the improvements offered by the company awarded the works, Sigma, that has allowed this municipal work also reaches Pérez Martorell street, where the pavement has been renovated, architectural barriers have been removed and action has been taken in the water infrastructures of the initial section - the one that runs from the Martínez Alejos avenue to Tugar street.
