Benidorm City Council is going to create a unit of the Local Police that will be in charge of prevention and monitoring of gender violence and that will work in close collaboration with the National Police. The councilor for Citizen Security, Lorenzo Martínez, said that "with the creation and implementation of this specific section we are fulfilling the commitment we adopted when we joined the Integral System of Gender Violence cases, promoted by the Secretariat of State of Security ".

Martínez explained that the Local Security Board held this morning under the co-chairmanship of the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Deputy Government, José Miguel Salval, "today have approved an annex to the protocol for action in cases of gender violence in the which, among other issues, sets out how the collaboration among our Local Police, the National Police and the different social agents involved in the prevention of this scourge and in the care of the victims will be. "

The councilor anticipated that this unit will be formed by an officer and an agent "with specific training, with special dedication and with absolute availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week, regardless of whether it is his work week or his rest week. "

In addition to working hand in hand with the National Police force members of this unit will also do with the staff of the department of Equality assigned to the care of women victims of gender violence. A service that is currently composed of a social worker, a lawyer who deals with the legal advice of victims and a psychologist; which will soon incorporate both local police; and that in 2017 it treated more than a hundred women.

The officer and the agent of the new unit will also be assigned other functions such as care for the child, or training talks on gender violence in schools.

For its part, the Councilor for Equality, Paquita Ripoll, stressed that "the implementation of this unit will significantly improve communication and coordination in the fight against gender violence, and especially in regard to monitoring of restraining orders or other judicial decisions. "
