Benidorm attends the XIII General Assembly of Spanish Network of Cities for Climate

Benidorm asiste a la XIII Asamblea General de la Red Española de Ciudades por el Clima

The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for the Environment, Mónica Gómez, have attended this morning in Madrid the XIII General Assembly of the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate.

Benidorm joined the Network after approving it in full, unanimously, on January 27. This network is a section of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) that brings together local entities that have included climate protection in their political agenda.

The Network is aimed at promoting sustainable development policies and promoting local policies to combat climate change and adaptation to it from four basic axes: mobility, energy, waste management and urban building and planning. Upon joining, the City Council undertook to determine a set of actions that will be incorporated into its Municipal Climate Change Adaptation Plan that will be a national pioneer for a tourist destination that, remember, the mayor announced during the Climate Summit in Madrid, the last December. The Plan is directed and tutored by the Professor of Regional Geographic Analysis of the University of Alicante, Jorge Olcina, who, in turn, is director of the Laboratory of Climatology at the University of Alicante and one of the most authorized voices in the field in Spain

This adhesion is in line with what Benidorm City Council develops in the areas of mobility, energy, urban planning, recycling and urban waste management, among others

The assembly has been chaired by the mayor of Seville, Juan Espadas, and has been attended by more than a hundred representatives of the Local Governments of the Network, as well as Valvanera Ulargui General Director of the Spanish Office of Climate Change.

After the General Assembly, a discussion table on Climate Emergence in Cities has been held after COP25.
