The government will present in the plenary session the modifying of the Mobility Ordinance, in line with the new DGT guidelines

Benidorm proposes three types of residents zone, all free for registered residents

26 August 2020
Benidorm plantea tres modalidades de zona de residentes, todas gratuitas para empadronados

The Benidorm City Council proposes the implementation of three different modalities of Resident Zone, all of them free for people registered in Benidorm and who pay their traffic tax in the city, as well as for companies with tax residence in the town. The mayor, Toni Pérez, explained that "this is one of the most outstanding developments included in the modification of the Mobility Ordinance, which will be voted next Monday for initial approval."

Toni Pérez has stressed that "the changes that are proposed in the ordinance are in tune with the new regulations of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) or with the future regulations already announced by this body". Likewise, it has been reported that “all these changes will not be immediate, since the process and final approval can take several months, but we believe it is important that the public know what these proposals are, aimed at making mobility in Benidorm more orderly and sustainable ”.

According to the new text, the current Residents Zone will be converted into: Orange Zone, Red Zone and Green Zone. The mayor explained that "the allowed parking time will be different in each of them." Thus, "in the Green Zone residents may park for a maximum time of 48 hours" and "for 10 days in the Orange Zone." In the Red Zone “the maximum parking time will be determined once these regulated parking modalities are established”.

The mayor has clarified that “when configuring the different modalities of Resident Zones we have taken into account the suggestions that have been made within the Mobility Advisory Council, a body in which the changes included in the Ordinance have been addressed ; as well as the requests sent by various business associations both in the telematic meetings for the configuration of 'Benidorm DTI + Safe' Master Plan and after the lock down ”.

This is the case of "the request sent by AICO, Abreca and Ociobal to promote consumption in the city", and which has been reflected in the Fourth Additional Provision, which includes the authorization of "parking in the Orange Zone also for non-residents when they accredit having consumed in establishments in Benidorm ”. The allowed parking time will be from one to three hours depending on the accredited consumption - from 5 euros to purchases over 15-.

Likewise, and also in response to the suggestions made by the Mobility Advisory Council, "non-residents will be allowed to park in the Green Zone for a limited time and upon payment of a fee."

After its initial approval, and once the modification has been published in the Official Gazette of the Province, the process of public information and audience with the interested parties will begin, which will last 30 days. Then the possible allegations will be solved and the ordinance will return to full session for final approval.
