Benidorm performs the granting of its Poblament Charter at San Jaime square

Benidorm representa el otorgamiento de su Carta de Poblament en la Plaza de San Jaime

Benidorm yesterday recalled its foundation as a town with the traditional performance of the granting of the Poblament Charter from the Almirall Bernat de Sarriá. The performance that took place at San Jaime square, which for 26 years have been carried out by members of clubs belonging to the Associació de Penyes Verge del Sofratge, and which is based on a text written by Professor Pasqual Almiñana.

The event was attended, among others, by the mayor, Toni Pérez; the councilors of Culture and Fiestas, Ana Pellicer and Jesús Carboles; members of the corporation; the Queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Fátima Carboles and Anna Calbo, with their courts of honor; the president of the Comissió, Paco Marín; and the president of l'Associació de Penyes, Dani Luque. The event was presented by Esperanza Rostoll, member of the Grup Carta de Poblament that, together with the Department of Culture and Festivals, is responsible for organizing the commemorative events of this event.

After the performance, the rain forced to move the act inside the church of San Jaime and Santa Ana. Inside the temple, the maintainer of the act, the professor of Prehistory of the University of Valencia (UV) Teresa Orozco, He made a brief review of some of the main archaeological sites in the city and defended the need to preserve the cultural heritage. Orozco reflected on the concept of identity and on the convenience of involving citizens in the task of conserving heritage through initiatives such as the consultation launched by the City Council for the designation of Locally Relevant Assets.

The act was closed with the words of the mayor, who reaffirmed the municipal commitment to value the archaeological and cultural heritage of Benidorm, with projects such as the recent recovery of the Tower of Caletes or the consolidation of Tossal in La Cala.
