Benidorm explains to merchants and neighbors the project and calendar of the third phase of Jaime I

17 January 2019
Benidorm explica a comerciantes y vecinos el proyecto y calendario de la 3ª fase de Jaime I

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has headed this morning the municipal delegation that has met with merchants and residents of Jaime I Avenue and adjacent streets, to give an account of the project of the III Phase of renovation of this important road, as well as the calendar to carry out the works. The meeting took place late this morning at  Angelillo Bar, located at number 25 Jaime I Avenue, and it has also involved the municipal engineers responsible for the project and those responsible for the construction company, who have attended the doubts and suggestions raised by the attendees.

The mayor has indicated that "the previous works have already begun" and that "the bulk of the work is going to be carried out in two months, so at Easter Week the actions included in the project will be completed, as well as the improvements offered by the winning company ". "For that period - he added - there could be pending some details to complete, but in any case they would be minimal and very punctual".

Pérez has informed neighbors and merchants that this III phase of renovation of Jaime I is nearly 700,000 euros and is for " the section that runs from El Cruce to the intersection of Limones streets and Ricardo Bayona. " Broadly speaking, it will "renew hydraulic infrastructure located in the subsoil and all the pavement, thus improving the urban scene, mobility, accessibility and urban services following the line of what has already been done in the rest of the avenue" .

The mayor has qualified that "basically works are going to be developed in the subsoil but under the sidewalks, not under the road" to subsequently "renew the entire surface of them giving continuity to the aesthetic that has given such good result in the two previous phases. "

He has also advanced that "the planning of work has been done in such a way that the activity on the avenue is not interfered with the daily activity of neighbors, merchants and visitors even though the intervention is going to be done on the sidewalk area fundamentally ". In this sense, he stressed that "pedestrian crosswalks will be enabled throughout the section of work and will guarantee access to all establishments." As regards traffic, "the traffic conditions will be very punctual and without cutting off the passage of vehicles, except in Atocha Street, which will be closed to traffic for the duration of the renovation of the sewage collector.

Pérez recalled that with this third phase "we are going to complete the remodeling of one of the main roads of the city, which in the last three years has seen its imagen transformed in an aesthetic and structural manner".
