Benidorm celebrates Asturias Day 2018 with the mayor as a town crier

08 September 2018
Benidorm celebra el Día de Asturias 2018 con el alcalde como pregonero

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has been the town crier of Day of Asturias, a celebration that hundreds of people have celebrated tonight in Oscar Esplá Amphitheater of l'Aigüera Park and organized by the House of Asturias of the Marina Baixa , coincides with the celebration of the festivity of the Virgin of Covadonga (September 8). The event was also attended by the councilman of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, the ediles Ángela Llorca and Rubén Martínez, as well as the queens of the Major Patron Festivitites, Fátima Carrobles and Anna Calbo, with their courts of honor.

The House of Asturias, which brings together a large colony of the Principado de Asturias in Benidorm and the region, has programmed a folkloric festival in which the Gijonesa Artistic Group and the Xolgoriu Folkloric Group have performed. As it is a tradition, the outgoing 'xana' and 'xanina' has also been fondly said to welcome the 'new xana', Verónica Peña Muñoz, and the 'xanina', Alexandra Velecela Peña.

This year, the Casa de Asturias of the Marina Baixa presided by Ramón Carrillo, has awarded with the 'Pelayo de Honor' recognition to Marisol Alonso Llamazares, a member and founding member of the association, for her work over the years to give visibility to the Asturian customs and traditions throughout the region.

Toni Pérez highlighted in his proclamation the similarities that unite Asturias and Benidorm, as the hospitality of its people and living facing a special natural heritage. The mayor highlighted "the affection and devotion with which you honor your patron saint today, the Virgin of Covadonga, 'the santina', as we also do here with ours, the Virgin of Sufragio." Pérez praised the work of the House of Asturias and the importance of keeping alive in Benidorm traditions throughout Spain.
