The City Council has set up delivery points in all the neighborhoods for the ‘Menjadors a Casa’ municipal program

Benidorm begins the distribution of menus for more than 500 Infant and Primary students with a grant for dining

Benidorm inicia el reparto de los menús para más de 500 alumnos de Infantil y Primaria con beca de comedor

Benidorm City Council has started today the distribution of the menus within the municipal program 'Menjadors a Casa' for more than half a thousand students of Infant and Primary students in the city who receive scholarships for school canteens B, C and D. This program, announced last Friday by the mayor, Toni Pérez, has been promoted through the Municipal Food Guarantee Network that will be active for the duration of the suspension of academic activity decreed by the coronavirus crisis.

For the distribution of these menus, the City Council has set up delivery points in all the neighborhoods of Benidorm, thus encouraging families to make “a unique and short-distance outing”. Thus, depending on the location of the student's school, families have been attended at Casa del Fester, José Llorca Linares social center, Les Caletes Municipal Children's School, CEIP El Murtal, Ausiàs March school and Els Tolls school. However, the mayor has indicated that "facing a new distribution, whose date will be specified in the next few days, the requests of families who want to collect the lots at another point that is closer to their homes will be met."

The distribution was carried out between 09:00 and 13:30 with volunteers from the municipal Collective Aid Network (#RAC) and municipal staff. Each family has received a batch with 10 menus consisting of ten main courses and ten seconds, six pieces of fruit, four dairy products and a large bottle of water. All menus are gluten-free and refrigerated and can be consumed within the next 20 days.

The mayor recalled that the “primary objective of this municipal program, free for families, is to guarantee the food resources of minors by providing them with a canteen service like the one they receive during the school year in their educational centers, and at the same time contribute to the reduction of family outings to make the purchase ”. "We want that in these difficult times families can be helped with their possible needs and makes the situation more bearable," he added.

This municipal program is aimed at 511 students of Infant and Primary schools in Benidorm who have been awarded scholarships for school canteens type B, C and D. The beneficiaries of the scholarship type A - which covers the entire service - are served by the Ministry of Education, which has created 'dining vouchers' amounting to 60 euros biweekly so that families can purchase food from a supermarket chain.
