The exhibition "Gran Benidorm" by Oscar Tusquets arrives in the city of Valencia

20 October 2017
La exposición “Gran Benidorm” de Oscar Tusquets llega a la ciudad de Valencia

After its passage through Barcelona, London and Benidorm, the sample constitutes a homage to its urban and tourist model

The exhibition hall "Factoría Rambleta" in Valencia, has hosted since yesterday the exhibition Gran Benidorm by Oscar Tusquets, after its passage through the cities of Barcelona, London and Benidorm. The exhibition opened now in the capital of the Valencian Community has been preceded by a talk with the artist himself moderated by the journalist Mariola Cubells, together with Valencian professionals from the world of architecture, urbanism and design as the architects Ramón Esteve, Sonia Rays and the designer Manolo Bañó.

The inauguration of the exhibition in Valencia is sponsored by the City of Benidorm, Hosbec and Iberdrola and at its inauguration was attended by a delegation of the municipal executive headed by the mayor, Toni Pérez, as well as businessmen and representatives of the hotel sector with the president of Hosbec, Toni Mayor, the head and the director of Iberdrola in the Valencian Community, Joaquin Longares.

The round table revolved around the artistic passions of Oscar Tusquets, the new and old axioms about urbanism, the vertical city as a model of sustainable development, and that admiration for Benidorm that manifests in this exhibition and that can be seen in the exhibition hall of Rambleta until next November 5.

The exhibition "Benidorm" by Oscar Tusquets, architect, designer, painter and writer, recreates Benidorm's fascination with the artist and, as he himself has acknowledged, "comes not from now but almost half a century ago, scandalizing the majority intellectuals and people of "good taste", but shared by prominent sociologists, urban planners and architects and hundreds of thousands of tourists.

The show premiered in Barcelona and later traveled to London and Benidorm. It is composed of about 40 works in different supports and elaborated with diverse techniques. There are a score of photographic collages, drawings, oils and watercolors centered on the Ensanche de Levante, which reflect the essence of the vertical city, but also demonstrate that "in addition to an urban experience of great interest, Benidorm is beautiful". The mayor thanked Tusquets for his defense of the city and for reminding us, "the paradise we live in and the luck we have to be part of it."
