Benidorm becomes the first municipality in which the standar on Smart Tourist Destinations is tested

26 September 2016
Benidorm se convierte en el primer municipio en el que se testea la norma sobre Destinos Turísticos Inteligentes

SEGITTUR begins to audit the requirements of the UNE 178501

Benidorm is taking steps to consolidate its leadership in tourism in the context of new technological challenges of the XXI century. This morning we have started the work sessions for the evaluation of Benidorm as a Smart Tourist Destination in accordance with the requirements established in the UNE 178501 AENOR. The meetings will last until Tuesday of next week, on October 4, and make Benidorm the first tourist destination of Spain in which SEGITTUR will test that Standard, a document that marks the roadmap of the new management models to be followed by tourist destinations in the XXI century. SEGITTUR is the agency responsible for testing the standard by entrustment of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society under the National Plan for Smart Cities of the Digital Agenda for Spain. The rule, a pioneer in the world in its category, will be tested in three other Spanish destinations, appart from Benidorm. Here the requirements of a management system for Smart Tourist Destinations are specified from which, the managing body with competence, can develop and implement a management policy for the destination and set objectives, goals and action plans related to the four pillars on which rests ITD: innovation, technology, accessibility and sustainability. Their implementation will improve the tourist experience before, during and after the trip, as well as to increase competitiveness and improve tourism destination positioning. Not only serve to continuously improve the tourist experience with the city, but will also contribute to improving the quality of life for residents in Benidorm. The development of the standard was commissioned by the Council of Ministers to SEGITTUR, which in 2013 promoted within the technical standards committee AEN / CTN 178 Smart Cities creation of the Subcommittee 5 Smart Destinations. The mayor of Benidorm and councillor for Tourism, Toni Pérez greeted SEGITTUR team, present at this first meeting, and expressed satisfaction of an audit that "will allow Benidorm to be a city even better and a better tourist destination.
