The project, which focuses on the wall, and the walls and pavement of the rooms
Benidorm awards in the coming days the works of consolidation and enhancement of the 'castellum' of El Tossal
The City Council has remitted the project to the Ministry for state grants
Benidorm City Council is going to award in the coming days the works to consolidate and value the Roman castellum of the 1st century BC of El Tossal de La Cala, after yesterday the Contracting Committee opened the last envelope of the offers submitted by the five companies that passed the technical process and that chose to execute the project, written by the Engineering area in collaboration with the heads of the University of Alicante (UA) who have led the five excavation campaigns .
The winning bid proposes to execute the project for 104,805.32 euros and it is foreseen that the works will begin before the end of the year, with a deadline of three months. The councilor of Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, recalled that in these consolidation works and value "is going to follow the same pattern used in the Tossal de Manises in Alicante , in the Illeta dels Banyets in El Campello and in the Tower of the Alumdaina ".
Specifically, "reversible actions will be carried out focused on securing the walls of the visible rooms and the canvas of the wall located four years ago", as well as "protecting the pavement of the rooms". Thus, it is going to re-create the existing walls, using materials that simulate the originals although differentiating the current part and the archaeological part. In addition, the gaps in the pavement will be filled and then lined with a layer of colored gravel to differentiate the rooms.
Pellicer recalled that "the walls of the 'castellum' were at risk of collapse when out in the open, which made it essential to act on the entire site to stop deterioration and preserve the remains." "These actions are the previous step to the next musealization - it has deepened -, because not only we want to protect what we have, but we want to teach our heritage to residents and tourists with activities of invigoration".
The councillor of Historical Heritage has recalled that the City Council has referred this project to the Ministry of Development to "opt for the aid of the 1.5% Cultural Program to finance works of conservation or enrichment of real estate of the Spanish historical heritage." The project is in the revision phase and if the aid is achieved, it will be possible to "increase the performance in El Tossal".
Public service contract in Boca Calvari and Hort de Colon
Soon "the contract for the attention to the public and for the revitalization of the Boca Calvari and Hort de Colon museums will be awarded", for an amount of 43,537.81 euros and to which a total of six companies had submitted. Pellicer has indicated that "we are already working on the next program that is focused on all audiences."
The opening hours of both facilities in winter will be from Tuesday to Sunday from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm; while in summer it will open every day in the afternoon, from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
