07 September 2017
El curso escolar 2017/2018 arranca el lunes con más de 8.000 alumnos desde Infantil a Bachiller

The City Council has already completed the adaptation of the new P2 classrooms in the schools Aitana and Vasco Núñez de Balboa

The 2017/2018 school year starts next Monday in Benidorm with more than 8,000 students from all levels of education from 2nd cycle of Infants to Bachelor in the centers supported by public funds. The mayor and head of Education, Toni Pérez, said that the only novelty for the new course is the creation of two new units of 2-year-old children in public schools Vasco Núñez de Balboa and Aitana. In the rest, the supply of 27 units per level is maintained, thus surpassing the demand.

According to the information provided by the mayor, in 2nd cycle of Infant and Primary Education are 5,025 students who will start classes on Monday; while 2,339 will do so in secondary school and 792 in high school. With regard to the last stage of 1st cycle of children, the children of P2, this course will have 220 in the three municipal schools for children who are added to the 54 that will go to the units authorized by the Ministry in the schools Vasco Núñez of Balboa, Aitana and Puig Campana - already operative the previous course.

Pérez has stressed that "from the City Council we are working loyally addressing issues that are not our competence," but rather the autonomous government, but to which "we have committed to the Department and the school community" to "improve educational spaces" . Thus, it has referred to the adaptation of classrooms for the new units of P2 in the centers Vasco Núñez de Balboa and Aitana, in which the Department of Education has invested about 72,000 euros; and also to the 133,000 euros of the contract of painting of schools.

To these must be added "the third commitment": the demolition of the old teachers' houses of the school Leonor Canalejas, which "is already in the bidding phase." The mayor has advanced that "the City Council will propose to the Ministry and the educational community that this demolition be done at Christmas, so as not to hamper the school's academic activity." At this point, he recalled that in the course of the past and in relation to the situation and eviction of teachers' houses, the City Council has already assumed the drafting of the demolition project and the adaptation as a dining room in the auditorium.

The mayor has indicated that "there are no novelties with respect to other works, which Consellería is sure to undertake, such as the completion of the IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch or the one promised at the Vasco Núñez de Balboa school."

Regarding school transport, he explained that "after the drastic cuts of the last two courses", for this 2017/2018 "the situation is stabilized and the City will maintain an identical system in relation to the model and similar in which refers to numbers, "even with a possible increase in the number of students who are subsidized the school bus.
